Pat Joyce, a native of Cape Girardeau, was recently elected associate circuit judge Division IV in Cole County.

Joyce, 39, lives in Jefferson City with her husband, Dan, and five children.

The post opened when the present associate circuit judge ran for another judicial position in the circuit. Joyce beat her opponent by nearly 4,500 votes.

She has served as a Cole County assistant prosecuting attorney since 1983.

She graduated from Notre Dame High School, and was chosen valedictorian at Southeast Missouri State University in 1976. She earned a bachelor-of-science degree in criminal justice and her law degree from St. Louis University Law School in 1979.

She was named Outstanding Young Woman of Missouri in 1983.

Joyce is the daughter of Lucille Steimle of Cape Girardeau and the late Joe Steimle.
