Habitat for Humanity, a nation-wide organization to provide housing, will get a plug today during the Super Bowl pregame show.

Local Habitat for Humanity volunteer Hal Brown said that the Atlanta chapter is in the process of building four homes with some help from the NFL.

"We are always in the process of building homes for people who could not afford them otherwise," Brown said of the Southeast Missouri chapter.

"We currently have one home under construction," he said. "In the Southeast Missouri area we have already built four homes which are currently occupied."

Habitat for Humanity recruits volunteer labor to help construct houses. "By doing it that way, homes be constructed for a fraction of the cost," he said.

The homes are then sold to low-income families who would not qualify for conventional bank loans. Families make payments on the houses back to Habitat for Humanity.

Volunteers are always needed, especially those with skills like carpentry, plumbing, electrical wiring and roofing.

"We work on Saturdays and during the week. Some people come in an work for a day or two. Church groups dedicate a Saturday to come and help," Brown said.
