The Southeast Missourian asked people for their opinion of President Bill Clinton's first year in office.

Danny Essner: "I've been impressed with his level of energy and the number of projects he's tackled, many of which have been avoided in the past. I still have concerns about his motives in accomplishing some of his projects, whether he is genuinely concerned about what is good for the country or what makes him look good in the eyes of the public."

Jeff Thurman: "I think there's a lot of things he said he was going to do that he hasn't yet. However, there are a lot of things that he has done that I think he's doing good at. A lot more to be done, I guess, though. His big things were the military and the health care. I think it takes a while to get things done, but so far I guess he's doing all right."

Viola Baker: "He sounds real good, but so far I haven't seen any action that stands behind what he's saying, yet. So, let's go Bill! Let's see some action! Of course, I didn't vote for him either. Health care program, let's get it in action. Let's do a lot of other things that he promised he would do."

Dave Huber: "I would say his first year has been average. With the health care plan, I think there's a dramatic step forward in that route. He has made a try at some of the things he said he would do, but I don't think he has succeeded that much on any of the subjects so far."

Armeka Hairston: "I think President Clinton is doing a pretty good job. He's made a few bad decisions, but that's part of the learning process. I listened to his State of the Union address, and as far as the crime, drugs and school issues, I think he is on the right track. If people just give him a chance, I feel he will be one of the better presidents."

Terry Weissmueller: "I really don't think he has accomplished the things he said he would, although he has started several things. I don't think he will accomplish a lot because of the way he is going about it. I think he's giving Hillary too much control over certain things that he should be controlling. They need to figure out if he or she is president."
