Federal Express will be moving to a new location this spring.
The company, which provides a complete mailing service, will move from downtown Cape Girardeau to a 13,500-square-foot facility, which will be constructed along Highway 74 in the Six-Thirty Industrial Park.
"The new facility will be located on a two-acre tract," said Ivan L. Irvin of Ivan L. Irvin & Associates, which negotiated the transaction between Six-Thirty Corp. and Ed Lochmayer, project manager of the central region for Federal Express.
Federal Express, which located on South Spanish Street here in 1984, has outgrown its current location.
"The new facility and location will enable the company to serve the area more efficiently," said Irvin.
Federal Express operates in all 50 states and around the world.
Robert Schwepker, station manager for Cape Girardeau, said the new facility will also offer counter service for customers wanting to drop off or pick up packages.
Counter office hours will be from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Friday and 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday.
Mac-Con Construction is general contractor for the building, which was designed by Alberson & Associates, 1707 Mount Auburn Road. The building will be owned by Six-Thirty Corp. and leased to Federal Express.
Construction will start soon, with a completion target date of early spring.
The Six-Thirty Industrial Park is located on both sides of Highway 74, from the Florsheim Shoe factory at the intersection with West End Boulevard, west to Mid America Distribution.
Federal Express will be located on the north side of Highway 74.
