PERRYVILLE -- Voters in Perry County Tuesday elected two members to the board of education and turned down riverboat gambling.

Turnout for the election was low, said an election spokesperson.

Winning in the race for the Perry County School District No. 32 Board of Education were Dennis R. Martin with 1,213 votes and Carol Laws with 1,077 votes. The third candidate Diane K. Edwards received 1,014 votes.

In the statewide riverboat gambling vote, 1,330 Perry County voters said no and 831 voters said yes.

All other city, school, town and village elections were unopposed.

In Perryville city elections, Robert J. Miget was re-elected mayor; Wilma Weinkein, city collector; Eugene Besand, city marshal and Robert Hershey, municipal judge.

Unopposed Perryville aldermen are Roger F. Prost, Bill Bergman and Paul R. "Butch" Flentge.

At Altenburg, aldermen James Palisch and Norbert Meyr were unopposed, along with two District 48 school board candidates, Gary Sachs and Mary Hunt.

Nick Buchheit and Rudy Buchheit were elected for two trustee positions at Biehle. At Longtown, trustee candidates Dave Geringer and Roy Lohmann were elected.

Incumbent Marvin School will return to his mayor's position at Frohna, along with aldermen William Koeber and Thomas Unger.

The only other contested race in the county was for the Madison County R-1 School District. A part of the school district is in Perry County. Arthur Myers received 4 votes, Don Reagan, 5, and Shelby R. Barnhart, 6.
