Students from Southeast Missouri displayed their best performance ever at the Missouri Student Mathematics state finals sponsored by the Missouri Council of Teachers of Mathematics. Students from Southeast Missouri displayed their best performance ever at the Missouri Student Mathematics state finals sponsored by the Missouri Council of Teachers of Mathematics.

Among winners were two first-place finishers from Jackson: Clint Ressel, sixth grade, who won first place in estimation and computation; and Michael Williams, sixth grade, who won first place in concepts. Williams also won fourth place in problem solving.

Other Jackson students placing in the top 10 were:

Justin Thompson, fourth grade, 10th place in estimation and computation; Joe Walter, fifth grade, ninth place in concepts and seventh place in problem solving; and Ryan Granger, fifth grade, sixth place in concepts;

From Clippard Elementary in Cape Girardeau, Tian Zhang, fifth grade, won fourth place in concepts and sixth place in estimation and computation.

Greg Miller, a sixth-grader at Alma Schrader, won seventh place in concepts.

Danny Robert, a fourth-grader at St. Mary Cathedral School, won 10th place in problem solving.

The youngsters in grades four, five and six competed against 470 students representing 300 schools. To advance to the state contest, the students placed in the top three at a district contest.
