More than 70 students from 35 schools participated in junior division competitions at the 60th annual meeting of the Missouri Academy of Science.

The meeting was held at Southeast Missouri State University April 29-30. Practicing scientists, college students, teachers, and junior-high and high-school students from across the state attended.

In addition to presentations on research, students competed for prizes awarded outstanding young scientists in Missouri's schools and colleges.

The Missouri Academy of Science is supported by more than 40 institutions of higher education in the state.

Area high school award winners were:

Advance -- Brandon Gregory, Advance High School, excellent rating.

Cape Girardeau -- Cape Central High students Robert Felker, superior rating, and Keri Gutherie, superior rating, Navy Award.

Leopold -- Melissa Engelen, Leopold R-III High School, superior rating.

Sikeston -- Sikeston High School students Ned Boyd and Jenny Stark, good rating, and April Howard, excellent rating.
