Leslie A. Simmons, manager of finance and administration at the Southeast Missouri Regional Port Authority, recently passed the Certified Public Accountants (CPA) examination.

Simmons, a native of Scott City, has been employed at the Port Authority since November 1992. She previously worked for five years in public accounting and served two years as an auditor for the Missouri Department of Revenue.

Susan Enax and Shirley Plante have been honored for presenting the best safety ideas for 1993 at Rapco International Inc., Jackson.

The company recently celebrated a half-million hours worked without a lost-time injury. All employees received safety T-shirts and key chains during an appreciation luncheon. They also received a half-day off with pay.

Larry Underwood, a sales associate at ERA Cape Realty in Cape Girardeau, has been honored for performance by Electronic Realty Associates, (ERA Real Estate) in Region IV.

Underwood received awards in several categories, including closed transactions, number of listings obtained and total production for 1993.

Other ERA Cape Realty associates honored for production for 1993 were Robert S. Price, Barbara Giddens and Sandra Little.

Awards were presented during the ERA St. Louis Broker Council awards ceremony held at the St. Louis Radisson Hotel. ERA Real Estate is based in Overland Park, Kan.

The Marriott Corporation has named Kimberly Swanson new director of Southeast Missouri Hospital's Food and Nutrition Services.

Marriott contracts to provide food services in more than 100 Midwest hospitals.

Swanson replaces Pat Thompson, director of the services at Southeast for five years. Thompson is leaving the Cape Girardeau post to accept a newly-created position as area training manager with the Marriott Corporation in St. Louis.

Swanson, a graduate of the University of Wisconsin-Stout with a bachelor's degree in dietetics, is a registered dietitian and has been a part of Marriott Corp. since 1985. She comes to Cape Girardeau from Our Lady of Resurrection Medical Center in Chicago.

Jeffrey G. Baer, staff accountant at the firm of R. Clifford Smith, CPA, 416 S. Kingshighway, Suite 4, has passed the Certified Public Accountants (CPA) examination.

Dr. Mark C. Kasten has been named president of the Southeast Missouri Hospital Medical Staff for 1994.

Hospital administrator James W. Wente announced medical staff officers recently. David O. Catron is president-elect and Randall L. Stahly is secretary.

Kasten practices family medicine with the Family Practice Specialty Center at 69 Doctors' Park. A graduate of University of Missouri-Kansas City, Kasten established his practice in Cape Girardeau in 1980. He is past president of the Missouri Academy of Family Physicians. He also served on the Southeast Missouri Hospital Board of Trustees.

Department chairmen have also been named at Southeast Missouri Hospital. They are:

Paul D. Thompson, department of surgery; Daniel S. Duick, department of medicine; Jacob P. Pyeatte, department of obstetrics and gynecology; James E. Hoffman, department of pediatrics; Mark L. Pfautsch, department of radiology; Mark W. Hosler, department of pathology; Riley R. Adams, department of anesthesiology; Michael C. Wulfers, department of family practice; and Michael A. Kolda, department of emergency services.

Gerald L. Nicholson, administrator of Otto, Ritter, Eller, Trueblood, Thorpe & Lents Orthopaedic Associations, P.C., recently completed requirements to become certified and advanced to the candidate status in the American College of Medical Practice Executives (ACMPE).

Nicholson will be recognized for his achievement at the annual ACMPE meeting in Boston later this year.

Nicholson, a graduate of Southern Illinois University-Edwardsville, with a master's degree in business administration with a concentration in health care management, has been administrator at Orthopaedic Associations since December of 1991. Prior to that he worked in the field of health care management, both as an administrator and medical office management consultant 15 years.

Michael Busby, owner of Helping Hands Computer Service, Cape Girardeau, recently attended a conference at St. Louis.
