I-57 ACCIDENT KILLS A MICHIGAN GIRL, 10

ULLIN, Ill. -- A 10-year-old girl from Saginaw, Mich., was killed Sunday morning when the driver of the van she was riding in fell asleep and the vehicle overturned on Interstate 57, 1 miles north of Ullin.

Innetta Rhodes was thrown from the vehicle and pronounced dead at the scene of the 10:51 a.m. accident. She was not wearing a seat belt, a spokeswoman for the Illinois State Police said.

The four other occupants of the van were injured. Passenger Dolinda Rhodes, 26, of Arlington, Texas, sustained major injuries and was taken to Southeast Missouri Hospital by Lifebeat helicopter. She was listed in stable condition Sunday night.

Also taken to Southeast Missouri Hospital with moderate injuries were Crystal Stephens, 9, and Brittany Stephens, 7, both of Saginaw.

The driver, Pamela Rhodes, 31, of Arlington, was treated for minor injuries at the same hospital.

A spokeswoman for the Illinois State Police said the southbound van ran off the road and overturned after the driver apparently fell asleep while using cruise control.
