ANNA, Ill. -- Three males were seriously injured Thursday afternoon in a one-car accident on Old Route 51, two miles north of Anna.

A spokesman for the Illinois State Police said that at about 12:30 p.m. Thursday, a car driven by Ronald Young, 16, of Cobden, Ill., swerved to miss another vehicle in the roadway, ran off the road, went airborne, flipped end over end, struck a tree and finally landed in a nearby yard.

Young received serious injuries and was transported to a Carbondale Hospital, police said. Two passengers in Young's vehicle Adam O'Connor and Johnny Barnes were thrown from the vehicle and seriously injured. O'Connor was transported to Union County Hospital; Barnes was transported via helicopter to St. Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau.

Illinois State Police say that none of the men were wearing seat belts and arrests are pending.

As the accident occurred, a car driven by Rachel Jeremiah, 16, of Cobden, Ill., swerved to miss the Young's vehicle, lost control, slid down and embankment and rolled her vehicle, police said.

One 17-year-old male riding in Jeremiah's vehicle received minor injuries. All occupants were wearing seat belts.
