EMERSON INTRODUCES LEGISLATION

WASHINGTON, D.C. - Eighth District Congressman Bill Emerson took the oath of office on Tuesday to kick off his sixth term in the U.S. Congress.

After the ceremony, Emerson introduced several pieces of legislation, ranging from deficit reduction to senior citizen issues to welfare reform.

Emerson introduced the following legislation:

- Balanced Budget Amendment and Line Item Veto Authority for the President,

- The Notch Baby Act of 1993 and Elimination of the Social Security Earnings Test,

- Food Stamp Employment and Flexibility Amendments of 1993,

- U.S. Flag Anti-Desecration Amendment,

- Voluntary School Prayer Amendment,

- Anti-Forced Busing Amendment and

- Language for All Peoples Initiative.

"I look forward to working with my colleagues in the 103rd Congress in order to move America ahead," Emerson said in a news release. "Congress must get to work immediately on the people's business."
