A satellite town meeting tonight will focus on "Project Phoenix," the Dade County, Fla., public schools' plan to create more than 60 new schools following the devastation caused by Hurricane Andrew.

The meeting will be televised at the Cape Girardeau Wal-Mart Supercenter at 7:15 p.m.

More than 2,000 U.S. communities are participating in this seventh America 2000 satellite town meeting. The purpose of each live meeting is to share ideas about how communities can change schools to achieve the six national education goals.

The meetings are sponsored by the U.S. Department of Education and the U.S. Chamber of Commerce. U.S. Secretary of Education Lamar Alexander hosts the meetings from Washington, D.C., with community leaders and national experts. An 800 telephone number will be provided for viewers to call in.
