Two major tax and legal publishers Commerce Clearing House (CCH), Inc., headquartered at Riverwoods, Ill., and Matthew Bender Tax Services announced that CCH has agreed to purchase the federal and state tax services published by Bender for an undisclosed price.

CCH said it will maintain Bender's products and will retain its tax editorial staff.

Matthews J. Hopkins of Cape Girardeau, is a local representative for CCH.

"This acquisition strengthens CCH's leadership position in tax publishing," said Edward L. Massie, president of CCH. "The acquisition signals a new CCH."

Massie said the new CCH is committed to developing new products, establishing strategic partnerships and exploring other market opportunities to respond to customers changing needs.

CCH currently publishes more than 200 topical law reports in the U.S., and its worldwide subsidiaries provide coverage of tax and business law to subscribers in Canada, Mexico, Australia, Europe and Asia. The firm also published a comprehensive line of state tax law reports for all 50 states.
