MARBLE HILL - Missouri State Auditor Margaret Kelly will present the results of her office's audit of the city of Marble Hill at a public meeting Wednesday night.

The audit was requested last May after a group of citizens signed a petition asking Kelly to do the audit.

Wednesday's meeting will be held at 7 p.m. in the multipurpose room of the Woodland School. Kelly will discuss the findings and recommendations included in the report and answer any questions about it.

The audit request was triggered last spring after the city council voted to spend a $700,000 trust fund to construct a municipal swimming pool and city office complex.

Several citizens argued that the conditions of the trust fund were that the money could only be used to construct a pool and that it was illegal to use it for the city office buildings.

State law requires the state auditor to perform an audit of any political subdivision, if requested to do so by enough qualified voters in the political subdivision.

In the case of Marble Hill, signatures from 105 registered voters in the city were required.

State law also requires that the entity being audited pay for the cost of the audit.
