A two-day blood drive opens today at West Park Mall. Officials hope to collect more than 200 units of blood.

The drive will be conducted today from 2-7 p.m. in a storefront near the Famous Barr Court. On Friday, the drive will be held from 11 a.m.-4 p.m.

David Palmer with the American Red Cross said meeting the goal for this blood drive is critical. Summer donations have been slow and additional blood will be needed over the Fourth of July holiday, he said.

"Normally we would have Monday, but we won't be collecting any blood that day because of the holiday," he said.

The drive is sponsored by West Park Mall, K103 and 960-KZIM. Those donating blood will receive a commemorative T-shirt.
