Shawn Batten of Brosley was named Miss Southeast Missouri, USA at a pageant held recently in Cape Girardeau.

April Spain of Kennett was named Miss Southeast Missouri-Teen, USA at the same competition.

This first ever preliminary pageant for the Miss Missouri USA and Miss Missouri-Teen USA competition to be held in Cape Girardeau was June 26 at Drury Lodge.

First runner up in the Miss Southeast Missouri category was Cindy Barrett of Sikeston and second runner up was Melissa Muse of Maryland Heights. Batten won the Miss Photogenic contest and Barrett was named Miss Congeniality.

In the teen pageant, Christina Brumbaugh of Cape Girardeau was first runner up, Julie Stallings of East Prairie was second runner up, Beth Grimes of Malden was third runner up and Tammy Fornkohl of Cape Girardeau was fourth runner up. Brumbaugh was named Miss Congeniality and Miss Photogenic also.

Winners of the pageants advance to the Miss Missouri USA and Miss Missouri-Teen USA pageants at Columbia on Sept. 10-12.
