A Jackson woman whose car was hit by a dumptruck near Fruitland was among five people injured in vehicle accidents Friday and Saturday.

Joyce Coleman, 47, of Jackson was in satisfactory condition at St. Francis Medical Center Saturday evening, a hospital spokesman said.

The Missouri Highway Patrol reports that Coleman was headed south at the intersection of Highway 61 and FF near Fruitland when the accident occurred Friday, at 3:40 p.m.

Her car was hit by a dumptruck headed north, driven by Michael Green, 27, Cape Girardeau. The patrol reports he crossed the center line. He was cited for following too closely and failing to drive on the right side of the road.

On Saturday at 11:35 a.m., on Highway 61 at the south city limits of Benton two women were injured in an accident.

Ernestine Blackmon, 28, of Oran, and Georgia Graham, 64, of Benton, were each treated at Southeast Missouri Hospital and released.

The patrol reports that Blackmon was driving south in the northbound lane and her vehicle was out of control when it hit Graham's car. Blackmon was not wearing a seatbelt. Graham was.

The patrol also reports that an Iowa couple were injured in a one-car accident Saturday at 2:14 p.m. on I-55, four miles north of Fruitland.

Ethel Soesbe, 65, of Clinton, Iowa, was headed south when she swerved to avoid another vehicle. She drove into the median and struck a culvert. A passenger in the car, Robert Soesbe, 67, was also injured.

Both were wearing seatbelts; they were not treated at either Cape Girardeau hospital.
