UE URGES FLOOD CAUTION

Union Electric Company is advising emergency workers and others traveling in boats in flooded areas to be extremely cautious around power lines.

In many areas, high flood waters have cut the amount of clearance under many power lines.

Anyone traveling in boats near power lines should avoid moving directly under or anywhere near the lines, since any contact with the lines could result in serious injury or death.

Although some lines in flooded areas have been de-energized, everyone should always assume any power line is carrying electricity and should stay away from it.

To date, there have been no reports of anyone injured by a power line during the current flooding.
