NEWS ANCHOR WINS EMMY

KFVS12 news anchor Mary-Ann Maloney has received an Emmy award for her work on the "Mary-Ann's Heartland Kids" television specials.

Maloney, whose show competed in the children's programming/long form category against three nominations from KSHB-TV in Kansas City, was awarded the Emmy in a ceremony held last weekend at Cervantes Convention Plaza in St. Louis.

Maloney said she was completely surprised to win, especially since all the competition was from a single big-city station.

"I had no speech prepared. I had to present (awards) later in the show, and I was more concerned with getting all the names right," she said.

In the special that won, Maloney and some children visited a pizza parlor to show how pizza is made, found out what a newspaper reporter does, and looked at crazy inventions.

The award by presented by the Mid-America Chapter of the Emmy Awards, which represents stations in Missouri, Iowa, Kentucky, Arkansas and Louisiana.

The Emmy is the first ever won by KFVS12, and the first for the AFLAC Broadcast Group.
