The Cape Girardeau Central Marching Band continued its winning ways the past weekend with a fourth-place finish at the 22nd Greater St. Louis Festival at Busch Stadium.

The competition was the largest and toughest the band has faced this year. Eight bands competed with Central in the Gold Division; 48 bands competed in all.

This was the first year Cape Girardeau competed in the large band group.

Central's score of 84.2 placed it only 2.3 points out of first place in the Gold Division. The score also placed the band fourth out of all the bands competing.

An estimated 125 band boosters made the trip to Busch Stadium Saturday along with band alumni and two injured band members: Jon Raymond and Justin Newberry.

On Oct. 16 the band earned three trophies at the Rebel Invitational Contest in Flat River. It took first place in marching and in overall general effect for its performance in the large band division. Its total score of 83.1 placed the band second in its class and second overall in the 17-band contest.

The Marching Tigers end the competition season Saturday in Springfield with a contest against bands from several states.

Band directors are Ron Nall and Neil Casey.
