Karen Hendrickson, assistant administrator at Southeast Missouri Hospital, has been elected to a one-year term as secretary-treasurer of the Missouri State Board of Nursing.

Hendrickson was named to the board in January by Gov. Mel Carnahan. She also serves on three board committees: executive, practice and discipline.

Hendrickson has served Southeast Missouri Hospital as its chief nursing officer for 11 years. She is a member and past president of the Missouri Organization of Nurse Executives, Southeast Missouri Council of Directors of Nursing, and the 8th District Missouri Nurses Association. She also served as co-principal investigator for the Missouri Nursing 2000 Project.

Glen Allen Mays has been promoted to account executive at the Federal Land Bank and Production Credit Association at Sikeston. Prior to his promotion, he served as loan officer in the Dexter branch office.

In his new position, Mays is responsible for new-business development, credit-related services and promotional activities in six counties: Stoddard, Scott, Bollinger, Mississippi, Cape Girardeau and New Madrid.

Mays is a graduate of Southeast Missouri State University with a bachelor of science degree in agri-business management.

Southeast Missouri Hospital SHARE counselors Linda Logan and Gayle Unverferth recently participated in a conference for SHARE Caregivers, held at St. Louis.

SHARE is a special support group serving parents who have lost a newborn or who have experienced a miscarriage. The local group in Cape Girardeau is sponsored by Southeast Missouri Hospital.

The first SHARE group was founded at St. John's Hospital in Springfield, Ill., by Sister Jane Marie Lamb, a nurse on the hospital's obstetrics unit.

Logan and Unverferth were instrumental in organizing Southeast's program in 1985 and have worked with the organization since that time.

M. Katherine "Kathy" Knott has joined the CyberTel Cellular staff at 500 N. Kingshighway as an account executive for the Cape Girardeau, Jackson and Perryville areas.

Knott, a Jackson native, recently relocated to the Cape Girardeau area from St. Louis, where she was employed seven years as an outside sales representative and account manager for Eishenhart and Associations. Prior to that, she was with Zimmer Broadcasting in the Cape Girardeau area for seven years.

Knott, the daughter of Alphonse and Inez Knott of Jackson, attended Southeast Missouri State University.

Cape Girardeau cardiologist Dr. James Chapman recently participated in the evaluation of a new balloon catheter for the performance of coronary angioplasty.

The evaluation was performed in the experimental cardiac catheterization laboratory of St. Mary's Hospital, Mayo Clinic, in Rochester, Minn.

Participating in the research were Dr. Rob Schwartz and Dr. David Holmes, Mayo Clinic staff cardiologists, and Chapman. The catheters are being developed by Advanced Cardiovascular Systems of Santa Clara, Calif.

Chapman is associated with Cardiovascular Consultants of Cape Girardeau and is a member of the medical staffs of St. Francis Medical Center and Southeast Missouri Hospital. He is a Fellow of the American College of Cardiology and a Fellow of the Society for Cardiac Angiography and Interventions.

Mary Ann Farmer, Magna-Tel Inc., Cape Girardeau, has received the designation of Master Advertising Specialist (MAS) by the Specialty Advertising Association International (SAAInternational).

To achieve the designation, Farmer had to attend a minimum of 170 hours of continuing education, which included attendance at week-long seminars, as well as workshops at industry trade shows.

SAAInternational represented more than 5,000 companies who distribute and manufacture specialty advertising products.

Tina Stureon of Cape Girardeau was winner of a hardback leather edition of "Great Quotes From Great Women" during the Heartland Women's Show recently.

The book was awarded by First Financial Planners. Gerry Keene presented the winner with her prize.

Terri Hirsch, literacy coordinator for the Cape Girardeau Vocational-Technical School, recently attended the "Collaboration for Success" state literacy meeting in Jefferson City.

Topics at the session, sponsored by Lift-Mo, Missouri State Library, Adult Basic Education and Missouri Literacy Association, included Missouri Literacy Initiatives and Missouri Agencies Committed to Literacy, headed by Lt. Gov. Roger Wilson.

Alan Blackard has been promoted to area manager at Tractor Supply Company (TSC), headquartered in Nashville, Tenn.

Besides his management responsibilities, he will oversee operations at stores in Cape Girardeau, and Paducah, Ky.

TSC operates 150 stores in 21 states.

Fred Brussee has been named senior vice president/marketing strategy and corporate development at Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Missouri (BCBSMo).

Roy Heimburger, president/CEO, announced Brussee's appointment.

Brussee, a graduate of Michigan State University and Miami University, was most recently regional managing partner of Price Waterhouse's Strategy Consulting Group.
