Francis J. Fabick, who served as president of John Fabick Tractor Co. from 1967 until his retirement in 1984, died Wednesday, Jan. 15, 1992, at his winter home in Naples, Fla.

Fabick, 75, the third son of the company's founder, joined the firm full time in 1934 after graduating from Campion Preparatory School in Prairie du Chein, Wis.

He worked his way through apprentice positions in the service, parts and sales departments and became manager of a branch facility at Salem, Ill., at the age of 23.

It was while he was in that position that he formed lasting business relations with a number of fledgling pipeline contractors. Through his initiative, Fabick subsequently expanded to provide worldwide equipment support of the contractors as they grew into global pipeline construction firms.

Under his leadership as president, the firm sold equipment for pipeline projects in Europe, Africa, the Middle East, and North and South America.

Fabick was named St. Louis Man of the Year in 1973.

He is survived by his wife, Mildred, of St. Louis and Naples; and two daughters, Patti Disbrow and Mildred Lucas, both of St. Louis.

Southeast Missouri Fabick operations are in Sikeston and Cape Girardeau.

Dates have been established for the 12th annual Southeast Missouri Home Builders Association Home and Garden Show to be held at the Show Me Center.

The three-day show will be held March 27, 28 and 29.

Show hours will be 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. March 27; 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. March 28; and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. March 29.

The show will feature decorating, remodeling and gardening exhibits and demonstrations.

More than 10,000 people attended the 1991 show.

The Small Business of the Year Award will be presented during the Cape Girardeau Chamber of Commerce's annual dinner and dance at the Show Me Center Feb. 7.

Other awards to be presented are the Rush H. Limbaugh and Go-Getter awards.

A social hour will start at 6 p.m., with the banquet at 7 p.m. The dance will start at 9 p.m.

The small business award will be presented by the Small Business/Business Research Committee.

Cost is $20 per person. Tables of eight will be reserved with a company name. Invitations have been mailed to all chamber members.

The Cape Girardeau Vocational-Technical School, 301 N. Clark, will offer a course, Computer Applications in Business, beginning Saturday.

The course is an introduction to computer data processing with an emphasis on general accounting software for accounts receivable, accounts payable, payroll and inventory.

Starting with the computer keyboard, students will be given a detailed introduction to the specifics of how programs work, how data is entered, and effects of program changes on file structures.

The course will meet for five weeks each Saturday from 8 a.m. to noon. The fee is $50.

Another computer class, A Taste of Computers, will start at the school Tuesday. Fee for that 10-week course is $60.
