"Santa Dollars," which were sold at Schnucks Markets during the Christmas holiday season, provided a total of $1,315 to the Cape Girardeau Salvation Army.

The amount raised by the promotion for the entire Schnucks chain was $27,137. This includes proceeds from sales at Schucks stores in the St. Louis and Kansas City metropolitan areas, Columbia, and Cape Girardeau; Evansville, Ind.; and Champaign and Bloomington, Ill.

Santa Dollars are crisp, new one-dollar bills with a smiling Santa face sticker placed over George Washington. They come with their own gift cards and envelopes ready to address. Santa dollars sell for $2, which includes the cost of the dollar, the gift card, envelope and processing fees. All proceeds are donated to charity.

The project was first implemented in 1990.
