Schnucks Markets Inc. has introduced a new line of soft drinks: Schnucks Super Sodas.

"We tested a variety of formulas over a period of six months," said Craig Schnuck, company chairman and chief executive officer. "We defined what we wanted and developed our own formula. We created a drink, and we feel the taste compares with Coke and Pepsi.

The new sodas are available in six-pack cans and two-liter bottles. Flavors include cola, lemon-lime, root beer, orange, cream, black cherry and grape.

Schnucks offered customers a chance to sample the new soda on Friday and Saturday and will offer samples on May 15-16, 22-23 and 29-30.

The local store is at 19 S. Kingshighway.

Sleeping Giant, a motivational company, will present a five-session training program in Cape Girardeau next month.

Carla Hubenthal is owner of the firm.

The program will be conducted in three-hour sessions from 6:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. June 8, 10, 15, 17 and 22.

McDonald's restaurants in Cape Girardeau County will be presenting white pine seedings to customers May 16 and 17.

The seedlings will be available at 1925 Broadway in Cape Girardeau and Highway 61 East at Jackson.

The Missouri Department of Conservation provides the seedlings.

Mike Parker of New York Life will be guest speaker at the Cape Girardeau Association of Life Underwriters Bonus Hour meeting Friday.

Parker, who is also the regional vice president of the Missouri Association of Life Underwriters, will discuss target marketing at the 11-a.m. meeting at the Holiday Inn.

New officers of the local association will be installed during the regular meeting, which follows the bonus hour.

"How to Organize and Manage Priorities" will be the topic of a workshop to be held May 18 at Drury Lodge.

Mark Towers, a licensed professional counselor, will lead the workshop.

The seminar will cover specific skills for handling multiple priorities in everyday work situations.

ULLIN, Ill. The Shawnee Community College Small Business Development Center will conduct a free tax seminar Thursday at the college near Ullin.

The seminar, conducted as an open forum, is designed to increase new-business owners' understanding of various state and federal taxes. Included will be information on business tax, tax benefits, and obligations connected with a small business and employer tax responsibilities.

The seminar is co-sponsored by the IRS, Illinois Department of Revenue, Illinois Department of Employment Security, Small Business Administration, Social Security Administration, Illinois Department of Commerce and Community Affairs, and Shawnee College.

The seminar will be held from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Radio station KYRX-FM (Y105) has received permission to increase its operating power.

The Federal Communications Commission in Washington, D.C., has authorized the station to go from 3,000 to 6,000 watts.

Mark Huffman, owner and general manager of the station, said the authorization was granted April 30, and that the increase would be made within days.

"We were gratified by the commission's action," said Huffman. "It will enable us to better serve or listening audience. It's also another tangible step in our growth."

The station, which programs an adult contemporary format, went on the air July 1, 1990, with studios in West Park Mall. It broadcasts at 104.7 on the FM dial.
