A new organization known as the Advertising Federation of Southeast Missouri is being formed.

Local advertising professionals are being sought as charter members.

The Advertising Federation is open to anyone who buys, sells or creates advertising or publicity, as well as those involved in marketing or public relations programs.

To learn more about the organization, interested persons are invited to attend a meeting Thursday at Drury Lodge, Interstate 55 and Route K. The event will begin at 5:30 p.m. with hors d'oeuvres and beverages and will be followed by an informal meeting and brief presentation by Janel McKenna, vice president of club services for the American Advertising Federation in Washington, D.C.

Reservations are requested and can be made by calling 651-2913 by Tuesday.

HORNERSVILLE The Missouri Economic Development Division of Job Development and Training and Missouri Employment Security offices in Kennett, Poplar Bluff and Sikeston are among state agencies that will participate in the annual Industry Day at Hornersville Sept. 29.

"All facets of economic development will be represented at this year's event," said Ron Yersak, administrator for SEMO-LEOA, which sponsors the annual event.

The event will be held at the Hornersville Gymnasium at 6:30 p.m. Utility companies, service providers, and a number of businesses will display their products.

Also participating will be the Farmers Home Administration district office at Sikeston, Job Training Partnership office-SDA-11 in Cape Girardeau and Three Rivers Community College at Poplar Bluff.

The computer science department at Southeast Missouri State University will offer three computer seminars soon. They are:

"Intermediate WordPerfect," Oct. 24, from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., Johnson Hall, Room 112. Fee is $60. Participants will learn many of WordPerfect's advanced features, including how to create form letters with mail merge, and how to generate mailing labels, sort records and design personalized form letters.

"Introduction to Lotus 1-2-3," to be held four Wednesdays: Sept. 30, and Oct. 7, 17 and 21, in Johnson Hall, Room 112, from 6-9 p.m. Fee is $60. The class uses the popular integrated software package on IBM PS/2s in the university's microcomputer laboratory.

"Tips and Techniques for Lotus 1-2-3," to be held four Wednesdays: Oct. 28, and Nov. 4, 11 and 18, in Johnson Hall, Room 112, from 6-9 p.m. Fee is $60. This is an intermediate level follow-up to "Introduction to Lotus 1-2-3." A short review of the basics leads into more complicated uses of the program, including macros.

Pre-registration is required for all classes. Persons can register by calling Wissman at 651-2244.
