JERRY REYNOLDS FILES FOR RE-ELECTION AS ASSESSOR

JACKSON - Cape Girardeau County Assessor Jerry Reynolds said he will file today for a fifth term.

The Cape Girardeau Democrat said he enjoys his job and looks forward to maintaining a quality assessor's office.

"I think we have an assessor's office that is top quality," said Reynolds, who was first elected in 1976. "I think we are doing a good job for the taxpayers in an economical way.

Reynolds was assessor when statewide reassessment was implemented. He said he and his staff worked hard to insure the process was done right and maintained.

Reassessment went on the books in 1985, and by law must be updated in odd-numbered years. In 1987 Reynolds was commended by the Missouri State Tax Commission for the way the overall reassessment process was handled in Cape County.

Reynolds said it is important that assessments remain current to insure that everyone is treated fairly and that taxing entities in the county, including school districts, receive the revenue they are entitled to.

"I think we've got as good of an assessment and appraisal office as anyone in the state," said Reynolds. "Our assessments are fair and up to date, and we will work hard to keep them that way."

Prior to his election as assessor, Reynolds served four years on the Cape Girardeau City Council. He is active in a variety of civic activities.

Reynolds is past president of the Missouri Assessors Association.

He and his wife, Lil, have three children, and reside in Cape Girardeau.
