Provost Les Cochran said Stephens' selection was a tribute to her accomplishments and was an important recognition for the university. "Jane is making professional strides forward and has assumed a major leadership role on campus," Cochran said.

The purpose of the forum was to bring together leaders of educational institutions to discuss critical issues facing higher education.

The council is an independent, nonprofit association founded in 1918. It represents all accredited post-secondary institutions as well as national and regional higher education associations.

The council's major function is to coordinate the interests of all segments of higher education into one voice.
