A spokesperson said the first symptoms are involuntary movements of the face, arms, limbs and trunk, which are frequently repetitive and rapid. There are also verbal tics and involuntary sounds that may occur together with the involuntary movements.

The disorder was discovered by Gilles de la Tourette in the 1770s. The cause is unknown, there is no cure, and it is not considered life threatening.
