Two people were killed and two others serious injured early Saturday in two separate accidents in Southeast Missouri and Southern Illinois.

The Missouri Highway Patrol said George Toy, 55, and Wendelin Jones, 17, both of Steele, were killed when the car they were riding in collided with a semi-truck at the intersection of Highway 412 and a Dunklin County Road. The accident occurred at 8:15 a.m. Saturday.

Illinois State Police at Ullin said two Alexander County residents were injured at 2 a.m., Saturday when the car they were riding in ran off Highway Three, struck a concrete retaining wall and overturned on its side, one-half mile south of the Route 3-127 intersection north of the Cache River, in Alexander County.

Investigators said the driver of the car, Martha J. Johnson, 25, of Cairo, lost control of the vehicle. Johnson and a passenger in the car, Luther Johnson Jr., 59, of Cairo, were taken to Southeast Missouri Hospital in Cape Girardeau.

Authorities said the driver was cited for improper lane change.
