JACKSON -- A request for a special use permit to locate two mobile homes on a tract of land near Old Cape Road and East Jackson Boulevard was tabled for additional study Monday by the Jackson Board of Aldermen.

The action followed a public hearing on the matter.

The request was submitted by Tracy and Melissa Kaminskey, who plan to use the mobile homes as offices for a used car business. They would not be used as living quarters, said City Administrator Carl Talley.

Although there was no opposition to the request during the hearing, neighbors who live near the area voiced concern it might lead to more mobile homes in the area. "I'd hate to see a trailer camp set up at the gateway to Jackson," said Robert L. Brothers, who lives across the street from the proposed used car business. But Brothers added, "If they keep it as it is, I have no complaints about two trailers."

Alderman Jack Piepenbrok said the council felt the same way, and would likely set a limit on the number of mobile homes that could be placed there.

The issue was tabled on an 8-0 vote. It will be reconsidered at the council's July 6 meeting.

In other business, Roger Koehler of 501 White Oak asked the council if something could be done about the rough gravel street, dust, and parking problem caused by T-ball games in nearby Litz Park in the first block of White Oak. Koehler said a majority of property owners are agreeable to paving the street. The council approved a motion to authorize the city engineer to prepare plans for the improvement.

Acting City Engineer Rich Bowen reported the sub-grade has been completed on the south side of West Main Street, and is ready for paving. He said the contractor will probably start paving today or Wednesday.

Bowen said the street improvement on Eastview is complete, and one lane has been paved on Anna Street. It is expected to be completed by the end of the week, he said.
