Lt. Commander Donald R. Taylor, a native of Grand Chain, Ill., is the new commanding officer of the Naval Reserve Training Center in Cape Girardeau. Taylor relieved Lt. Commander Jack F. Dalrymple during a change-of-command ceremony held Saturday at the center, located at 2530 Maria Louise Lane.

Taylor reports to Cape Girardeau following a tour of duty aboard the USS Guadalcanal as head of the Deck and Weapons Department.

Taylor is a graduate of Century High School, near Ullin, Ill., and a graduate of Shawnee Community College and Southern Illinois University-Carbondale.

He is a 14-year veteran of the Navy whose career includes a two-year stint as an enlisted Navy journalist and assignments to several ships.

Taylor is married to the former Lynne Mowery of Tamms, Ill. They have three children.

Dalrymple served as commanding officer of the Cape Girardeau Naval Reserve Center since June 1989 and oversaw the activation of more than 100 Naval Reservists from the Cape Girardeau area during Operation Desert Storm.

Dalrymple is a native of Georgia and a 13-year veteran of the Navy. He is a graduate of the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill, and will soon complete requirements for a master's degree from Southeast Missouri State University.

He is married to the former Shelly Houston of Fort Worth, Texas. They have three children.

Dalrymple is being reassigned as executive officer on board the USS Spartanburg County, which is docked in Norfolk, Va.

Both men are Naval Reserve officers on active duty with the Navy's Training and Administration of Reserves (TARS) program. Their assignments alternate between jobs with active duty forces at sea and Reserve programs ashore.
