The Southeast Missourian asked people if they felt that a lot of Americans will be voting "for" a certain candidate in the presidential election, or "against" a certain candidate by voting for another one.

Lisa Griffin: "I believe that people are not so sure about voting again for President Bush. There are a lot of people who still support him, and I think he has done a good job, but at this time I'm not so sure that he will be re-elected."

Mark Baldwin: "I think that Ross Perot is getting most of his support from people who would vote against President Bush, or against the insiders. I think it's mostly a protest vote. The better the economy gets, the better chance that Bush has to be re-elected."

Mary Bullard: "I think people are tired of the way things are being handled in our country. That's why Ross Perot will get a lot of votes, if he makes it that far. They are ready for a change, and he represents something different."

Denise Owen: "A lot of people will be voting against a candidate, but that's not a good idea. You would be voting for a person you know nothing about. You're just voting against in spite. The point of electing a president is to vote for a candidate, not against them."

Brad Boyette: "I can only interpret the popularity of Ross Perot in the polls in that people are voting against the system rather than voting for Perot, the person. It seems that the populace is trying to demonstrate their disappoint in the economy and the government."

Rick Brown: "I don't think people are going to vote against somebody. The protest vote has been blown out of proportion. Once everything about the candidates comes out in the open, people are going to vote for a candidate, not against two other candidates."
