Danny R. Essner and Kathleen W. Bertrand recently received promotions at Boatmen's Bank of Cape Girardeau.

Essner, who joined Boatmen's in 1984 as a facility manager, has been promoted to senior vice president and manager of the commercial loan department. Bertrand has been promoted to assistance vice president and commercial loan officer.

Essner, a native of Kelso, is a graduate of Southeast Missouri State University. Before joining Boatmen's he worked with Ford Motor Credit Co.

At Boatmen's he became real estate loan officer in 1985, was promoted to assistant vice president and manager of the real estate department in 1987, and joined the commercial leading department in 1989.

Essner and his wife, Debbie, are parents of two daughters. They reside in Cape Girardeau.

Bertrand, who joined Boatmen's in 1984 as assistant manager of loan services, will assume commercial lending responsibility and also will be involved in business development.

A graduate of Southeast Missouri State University, the Mid-South School of Banking and the Graduate School of Banking, Bertrand became manager of loan services in 1985 and was named assistant vice president in 1988.

A native of Cape Girardeau, Bertrand and her husband, David, have two sons.

David Krekel, a native of Cape Girardeau, has been promoted to manager of the supply department for the Argonne National Laboratory's reactor program services division at Argonne, Ill.

In his new position, Krekel will be responsible for supply, inspection, and shipping and receiving of materials and for food services at Argonne-West. He will oversee inspection, warehousing and distribution of general stores and spare parts. He also will manage hoisting, rigging, and material handling and will operate the laboratory's cafeteria.

Krekel is a graduate of Idaho State University. He holds bachelor's and master's degrees in business administration.

Argonne National Laboratory, operated by the University of Chicago for the U.S. Department of Energy, is one of the nation's largest federally-funded scientific laboratories.
