Sissy Colyer, who has owned and operated Special Touch Pet Grooming and Nursery Kennels in Cape Girardeau for the past seven years, is opening a second location in Sikeston on Aug. 3.

Open house for Special Touch II, 2106 E. Malone in Sikeston, will be held from noon to 2 p.m. on Saturday.

Colyer, who has over 13 years experience in the pet caring business, said the Sikeston shop will specialize in grooming and will not be equipped with a kennel operation.

She said she wanted to open a second location so that customers in the Sikeston area wouldn't have to drive so far.

Both shops will be equipped with computer systems that determine the health condition of the animals and check for problems such as skin rashes, she said.

"Grooming is not just for prettiness," Colyer said. "It's also for the health of the animals."

She said both shops also will be carrying medicated products that can be purchased by customers for their pets.

Special decorations can be used for the dogs on holidays, Colyer said. Also, customers can request rings and flowers to decorate their pets for a wedding.

Colyer said she has ten employees who will be rotating between both shops.

"I trained all my employees, so I fully trust them," she said. "Customers can feel secure and not worry about their pets. We really care about the animals."

The grooming shop in Sikeston will not be open on Mondays. The hours for the rest of the week are Tuesday through Friday, 8 a.m.-~4 p.m., and Saturday from 9 a.m.-4 p.m.

Colyer said she and her husband Jeff will help manage both shops.
