The Board of Regents at Southeast Missouri State University approved a number of personnel appointments Thursday.

Dalton Curtis was named acting dean of Graduate Studies and Extended Learning. He will assume the duties of Dean Sheila Caskey, who is currently interim provost. Curtis, a professor in the department of education administration and counseling, will serve as acting dean until a new provost is selected.

Curtis has been a member of the Graduate Council for six years, including a term as vice chairperson. He has served as director of honors, academic associate and director of the University Studies interdisciplinary program. He holds a doctoral degree from the University of Oklahoma and has been part of the faculty at Southeast since 1979.

Catherine Roeder was appointed acting director of Kent Library for the 1992 fall semester. She will assume the responsibilities of James Zink, who has accepted a faculty appointment for the semester at Roehampton Institute in England. Roeder holds a master of library science degree from the University of Kentucky and a master's in information science from the University of Pittsburgh. She has been at Southeast since 1972.

Nikki L. Murdick was appointed chairperson of the department of elementary and special education for a three-year term.

Murdick earned a doctorate from the University of Georgia and was formerly the coordinator of graduate programs in the curriculum and instruction department at the University of Arkansas.

Richard A. Burns was appointed chairperson of the psychology department for a three-year term.

Burns holds a doctoral degree from the University of Southern Florida and was formerly a professor in the psychology department at Georgia Southwestern College.

Michael D. Parker was appointed chairperson of the social work department for a three-year term.

He earned a doctorate from Arizona State University and was formerly associate director of the School of Social Work at Southern Illinois University-Carbondale.

Carol Veneziano was appointed chairperson of the criminal justice department for a three-year term.

She has been a member of Southeast's faculty since 1988 and earned a doctoral degree from Sam Houston State University.

Linda Burns was appointed acting chairperson of the secondary education department for the 1992-1993 academic year. Burns received a doctoral degree from the University of Missouri-Columbia and joined the faculty at Southeast in 1968.

Helen L. Nevitt, who had been classified as an instructor, was reclassified as an assistant professor after earning a doctorate from the University of Virginia.
