concert Dec. 8 by the Southeast Missouri State University Symphonic Wind

Ensemble and the Fredericktown High School Concert Band.

The event is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. in Academic Auditorium.

Highlighting the evening of music will be oboe soloist Nico Boom of The

Netherlands. Boom studied at the Brabant Conservatory, where he completed degrees in

oboe and band conducting.

Boom, who served as a member of the professional Amsterdam

Police Band from 1982-1988, currently is a member of the Amsterdam Wind Orchestra.

Knutson has earned an international reputation for his marches, which are published

in Norway and in the United States by TJ Enterprises of Cape Girardeau.

His march, "Cape

Girardeau," was dedicated to Robert Gifford, Southeast professor of music and

secondary education, and to the Symphonic Wind Ensemble. It was premiered on campus

in 1990 with Knutson conducting.

The Southeast Symphonic Wind Ensemble is a band of 41 students selected through

competitive audition and has distinguished itself in the past several years with performances

for the Missouri Music Educators Association and the College Band Directors National

Association.

Admission is free with a Southeast ID

. Admission is $3 for adults, and $1.50 for non-university students 12 and older

and senior citizens. Proceeds will benefit the music department's scholarship fund.
