Clean neighborhood
HEY, CAPE Girardeau, remember when our town was actually clean without all the litter all over the streets? I just found a block that's actually clean. It looks like the old Cape Girardeau: the 1400 block of Luce. Congratulations, homeowners.
Liberal dictionary
The person who coined the phrase "conservative catterel" to describe a recent letter to the editor is obviously a liberal wordmeister. I could not find the word "catterel" in the dictionary. I guess it is in the liberal dictionary that Bill Clinton used to define the word "is."
Good response
I am a well-behaved, busy college student. Every time I log on to semissourian.com to read the happenings where I am from, I always turn to Speak Out. It saddens me to read so many complaints from so many people who aren't doing anything to make a change in what they are complaining about. Also, as a graduate of Jackson High School, I will agree that our intruder drill is not effective at all. But, as for teachers allowing you to be picked on, that is completely a myth. In all my time there at school, I could have gone to any teacher with a complaint and been helped, and if not helped, then pointed in the right direction. Parents need to get their facts straight before criticizing. As a student who attended more than one high school, I can tell you there are certainly worse places to attend where harassment is actually a problem.
Police: Stay away
To the caller who wonders where the police are: I hope the police stay away from Mount Auburn Road. If you add them to the mix, doing U-turns and pulling people over, you add an even more dangerous element to an already cautionary situation. This goes for anywhere. Let traffic do what traffic wants. Research shows that when left alone traffic is a lot safer. Let's not have this city turn Mount Auburn Road into a revenue builder. Let's have Mount Auburn Road be an efficient way to get across town.

We got caught
I'm sure that if the United States discovered a Chinese spy plane just off the coast of California, we wouldn't sit idly by and watch. And if that plane landed on our soil, I doubt we would simply hand over the plane and crew without some answers first. We were spying and got caught. All we have to do is admit that and this whole ordeal would be over.
An embarrassment
Christians in this area have much to learn about their own faith. Are people really telling me that if I cannot afford nice clothes, God doesn't want me to go to church? Does Leonard Kuehnert really believe that the justices in Roe vs. Wade are going to hell, regardless of their belief or disbelief in Christ? And do people in this area truly believe that homosexuals are hellbound regardless of faith, even though most scientists believe homosexuality is determined before birth? This region is an embarrassment to true Christians everywhere.
No. 2 in non-fiction
Gary Rust wrote something the other day to which I would like to add. I hope it will help to silence some of David Limbaugh's incessant, often irrational Speak Out critics. In praising Limbaugh's book, Rust pointed out that it was No. 2 on the New York Times best-seller list. I would like to add just for the record the book is No. 2 in the category of non-fiction.
Fear authoritarianism
I've lately been reading comments from people who think there is some kind of communist uprising in America or a new Cold War beginning and that communists are evil. Communism is a form of economy, not a form of government. The ideals are to have total equality. A nation can be communist and democratic at the same time. Instead of fearing a system of economy, fear authoritarian or facist governing.
