MY, MY, my. Is Marty Mishow somehow defending the Scott City athletic program? I find that amazing since he is such a Central and Notre Dame supporter. Gee, that almost seems weird, considering he's never had anything nice to say about Scott City. He did manage to rip the school board and the city itself and call Scott City a "joke." Does he have anything better to do than say negative things about Scott City? Oh, I forgot. ...

It's always negative

All he and his Missourian cronies ever care about it is Cape or Notre Dame sports. What did Scott City and its school ever do to you people?

Driver abilities

IF THE government wants us to stop talking on our phones while driving, perhaps it needs to look at a few other distractions first. Irrational lawmaking at its finest is what this is called. You had better start taking away car radios, CD players and anything else that keeps our eyes off the road and our hands off the wheel. This is just another attempt for the government to pass a feel-good law because a few people are complaining. This doesn't focus on the real issue: Driver abilities. There are some people in Cape who shouldn't be allow to drive and chew gum. Others do fine with breakfast, a cup of a coffee and a phone call. Give me a break.

She didn't cover up

I'D LIKE to respond to the liberal who called in to gloat that George W. Bush's daughter was arrested for underage drinking. My understanding is that she admitted up front she had done something wrong. Unlike Bill Clinton, she did not try to redefine the law to her convenience. She did not lie under oath about the crime.

Faster warming now

LEONARD WILLE wrote a letter stating quite factually that the earth has been warming since the last Ice Age, almost 10,000 years ago. The problem is that since man learned to manufacture, that rate of increase has jumped exponentially. The earth is now warming thousands of times faster than normal. Global warming definitely is normal just not this fast.

Glaring exceptions

CAPE SCHOOL board president Bob Fox was quoted as saying that the school board sets policy and allows the superintendent to run the system. Recent history pertaining to school personnel seems to prove that at the very least there are glaring exceptions to that rule.

Different standard

I DID not hear too much about President Bush's daughter, who was caught for underage drinking, from the religious right wing and other Republicans. What I heard was, "Oh, well, kids will be kids." All I can say is that it's a good thing it was not Chelsea Clinton, because we would have never heard the end of it.

Not this president

ONE QUESTION: Who is the president who is working so hard to keep his campaign promises? It certainly isn't George W. Bush.

Evidence is lacking

WITH ALL due respect I would like to say that Jack Stapleton needs to catch up on his history. When a crime like murder is committed, there is an attempt to establish the sequence of events leading up to the crime. No one has been able to prove that Lee Harvey Oswald killed President Kennedy. Expert marksmen have not been able to shoot as repeatedly as Oswald has been accused of doing.

Who has killed more?

WHAT IS wrong is the legalization of abortion, which our country hails as a woman's choice? Before we start pointing fingers, let's ask ourselves how much effort have we put in to ridding our country of abortion compared to the amount of energy to put Timothy McVeigh to death. Who has killed more: Timothy McVeigh or our government by supporting abortion? Remember: The people make up the government, which governs us.

Don't lower speed limit

I SEE where someone suggested lowering the speed limit to 60 mph on the interstate to save fuel. That sounds good but would be detrimental. First, the vast majority of cars built since about 1985 have overdrive transmissions. When you drive slower, they downshift more in hilly areas and use more fuel. Both of my cars get better mileage at 70 mph than at 60 mph. And who is going to enforce a 60-mph speed limit? I dare you to find someone driving the speed limit now. Lowering the speed limit will not guarantee compliance.

Subsidy for methanol

THE SPEAK Out methanol advocate failed to tell you its development requires a taxpayer subsidy, and we're tired of those.

Where are they?

I STAND ready to assist the persistent Speak Out caller who continues to urge us to weed out communists. However, I need some help because, for the life of me, I can't find one.
