SPEAK OUT
I'M CALLING about Timothy McVeigh now wanting to delay his execution. To me, he deserves to be dead already. He's killed people. I think he ought to try to be at least a little bit of a man and take his punishment. THREE CHEERS for the Bush family. Take the punishment
I'M CALLING about Timothy McVeigh now wanting to delay his execution. To me, he deserves to be dead already. He's killed people. I think he ought to try to be at least a little bit of a man and take his punishment.
Just a normal family
THREE CHEERS for the Bush family. When Jenna Bush gets caught in a misdemeanor, they don't go out and hire a roomful of people to spin the truth and tell lies to reporters. They don't start calling the policemen names and claim they're lying. They don't try to put the blame on the prosecutors. They just take their punishment and go on just like the regular people they are. Good for them. The Bush family is the right family for America.
Applause for decision
THE ROUNDABOUT is a mistake in its current design. We might as well bite the bullet and do it right. It'll never be what it ought to be. On the other hand, let's praise those who have the guts to put a stop sign at the intersection of Hopper Road and Mount Auburn Road where it's really needed. Anyone who has to use Hopper Road crossing Mount Auburn would applaud that decision.
Fighting for lives
I DISAGREE with Christine Stephens that Michael J. Fox and Christopher Reeve are selfish and narcissistic men. Let her spend one day in a wheelchair. I believe Fox is a wonderful man who is only trying to find a cure for his disease. He is meeting with little success on Capitol Hill. He's seeking help. Money is thrown at AIDS, although just a bit of self-control would contain this disease. I don't think it hurts to use fetal tissue. If women are going to have abortions, then why shouldn't some good come of it? It's better than discarding the remains. Fetal tissue shouldn't be used for vanity reasons, like cosmetic surgery, but if it can save someone's life, then go for it.
Make it convenient
I'M CALLING about the Show Me Center. We were at the Gaither concert last night. We had been sold senior-citizen tickets and were told they were very good seats. But the senior citizens were sitting on the second floor. It was sad for the ones who used walkers and had to crawl up the steps. Something better should have been arranged. Senior-citizen seating should always be on the bottom level.
Unwarranted statement
THE ARTICLE on the sports page by Bob Miller reporting on the St. Vincent loss was uncalled-for. It was a put-down of Ryan Brown by saying he threw the state title game away. This statement was unwarranted. Did not all the other errors in the game by the players count for the loss too? Just because the throw was so crucial does not make it any more of an error. It did clinch the victory for Jasper, but why was the loss of the game stated to be all Ryan's fault? All the positive things Miller said about Brown did not make up for that one statement. In my opinion, this was very irresponsible reporting.
Not a good example
I'D LIKE to say something to all these Christian Republicans who call in and talk about how the Bushes have made so much progress in restoring dignity to the White House. Bush's two daughters have both been arrested twice for drinking. This is what you call restoring dignity to the White House and being a role model for our country? I think you'd better read your Bible. You're always quoting Scripture. Read it a few times, and you'll find out that adultery is not the only sin in the Bible. Scripture has a lot to say about drunkenness. Besides, drinking and driving have killed an awful lot of innocent people.

Sounds familiar
I'M REALLY upset with our government for trying to take these Idaho children, especially the way they arrested the kids' mother by lying to her. It's wrong of our government to behave this way. This is like Waco and Ruby Ridge. It's becoming easier to understand why these people resisted the government.
Muddy boat ramp
SINCE THE Missouri Conservation Department took over the boat ramp in Cape Girardeau, the mud is so deep you can't put a boat in.
A little consideration
ACCORDING TO the news, blacks are stopped by the police more often and searched than white people. Blacks have always been called up by police more often than white people. The police should not be so eager to pick up every black person they see just because of the color of his skin. Underneath that color, they're just like you and me. Please have a little consideration.
Jungle flashbacks
I DON'T mind the roundabout as such. However, the jungle in the middle is making me have flashbacks about Vietnam.
Immediate execution
I SEE that Timothy McVeigh has a desire to live and embarrass the government. Unfortunately, McVeigh doesn't have a right to live. He wants to live because he's a coward. Our criminal justice system will be embarrassed if it lets him live. The people he killed desired to live, and where are they? McVeigh should be put to death as soon as possible.
Racial realities
THERE'S BEEN a lot of publicity recently about the police stopping certain races of people more often than others. This has no meaning unless you know the makeup of the people who are committing crimes. If it's more of one race than another race, then why shouldn't the police stop that race more often? It would be ridiculous to stop more blacks if you know most illegal activities are being done by whites, for example. We need to get real about these things instead of going by a chart.
Good intentions, but ...
TO COMPARE the Bushes' problems with their daughters to Clinton's escapades is ridiculous. You can have the best family values in the world and still have problems raising children. It has nothing to do with Republican or Democrat. It has to do with young people making bad choices in spite of everything you have tried to teach them.
