IN REFERRING to frozen embryos consigned to the trash bin, Dr. Theodore J. Grieshop wrote, "Just because these human beings are likely destined for an early and regrettable death doesn't mean they may be further exploited." Come again? Further exploited? If Grieshop considers curing an already living human being of a devastating malady "further exploitation," then I think his position is absolutely horrifying and illustrative of the ultimate sacrifice of acumen on the altar of ideology.

Up against a wall

I HONESTLY believe I would have felt less intimidated by the now non-existent Berlin Wall than I do by Cape's omnipresent, Orwellian street barricades.

Please mow weeds

I'M CALLING about the property on West Jackson Boulevard. I would appreciate if the owner could mow some of those weeds down. It is snaky and insect-infested.

Design flaws

THE CORNER of Kingshighway and Independence flooded in the last big rain. The ditch running along Kingshighway was not full. There is only one conclusion to be drawn: the design was faulty. If the engineers cannot get water a few feet to a ditch, how can you expect them to design a roundabout of sufficient size and capacity to move traffic efficiently? Like my old friend used to say, they are just like the birdie. They go cheap, cheap, cheap.

Unreasonable times

I AM responding to the article about Cape mail getting picked up more often. Pickup was Monday-Friday at 5 p.m. In June they changed this to 2 p.m. Now the local businesses are forced to put their mail in the blue box before 2 p.m., and anything after that they have to run across town to mail. They may say they are picking up more often, but not at reasonable times for local businesses.

Helping taxpayers

THE DEMOCRATS whined and whined, saying the tax rebate was a rich man's tax rebate. One after the other, Daschle, Gephardt and Kennedy slopped the hogs by feeding them the same old liberal line: It's not fair. My wife and I both work at minimum-wage jobs, yet we will receive $600 that will help at school time. This was a tax rebate for those who pay taxes and keep the country moving.

More demolition

IT WAS interesting to see the pictures of the buildings and dilapidated house that the city says it is going to tear down. They should have come up to the 800 block of Main Street. This house has been called in several times, and nothing is done about it. The only time we are remembered up here in this northeast section of town is when taxes and bills are due. We would like to see something done with this house.

City needs to mow

IN THE Red Star district where the city does not mow the grass like it is supposed to it is a mosquito harbor. The city complains about other people who don't cut their grass. I would like something to be done about that.
