Uniforms bring bad memories

WHEN I think about school uniforms or the subject of school uniforms is brought up, I always think back to World War II when Hitler put all the children in uniforms.

Use the China issue

IF THE Republicans don't use this China issue as a political pole to stand on, they may lose the election.

Being mom is good occupation

I WAS just reading the Southeast Missourian birth notices again. I like to read them to see who's been born in our community and notice again all the women who have jobs that they're going to work when they go home with the kids. I would suggest the other mothers that don't have any jobs to list maybe should put, "I am my kid's mom." Just sign me somebody who worked the whole time her kids were little and sure regrets it now.

A lack of good sense

THE EDITORIAL staff of the Southeast Missourian has what is known in music as a tin ear. The following are a few examples of the lack of basic good sense. The Missouri Legislature just passed a law allowing people over 21 not to wear helmets when they're riding motorcycles. This will increase deaths by 20 percent and health-care costs of those who are injured by 35 percent. Secondly, the liquor industry and the Legislature killed the bill to lower the allowable blood alcohol level to 0.08 percent from 0.10 percent.

Levee project is good for area

MARK BLISS wrote an interesting story about the New Madrid levee project. It's a project that's good for everything and needed to be completed. The project is designed so that a levee will built across a 1,500-foot gap, and then drainage is going to be improved. With the improvement of drainage, it was designed to have lots of wildlife habitat.

In favor of more parking

AS A student at Southeast Missouri for both an undergraduate degree and now my master's, I support the River Campus wholeheartedly but only for one reason. I support anything that would give some additional parking on campus. Parking is truly horrible. The time we spend trying to get to classes and the exhaustion it causes us older people, we might as well be going to St. Louis U.

Good advice for graduates

I JUST read the commentary on the Opinion page by Nick Palisch. I just want to say how great it was. Even though I've been out of high school for 15 years, there are still doors opening for me. I'm going to make sure my niece sees this. Thank you very much, Nick. You did a good job.

Don't pinch the doughtnuts

I SAW a man at the grocery store pinching the miniature doughnuts to see if they were fresh. He didn't pick them up. So please don't pinch the doughnuts.
