Lawyers are getting free ride

I FIND all the recent physician bashing in Speak Out interesting. As one acquainted with the medical profession, I can say that many of the comments have been made in unfortunate ignorance. Perhaps most interesting, however, is how lawyers, by comparison, are given a free ride. These individuals pass our laws as our legislators, rule about our laws as our judges and then make use of our laws so that we may injure and harass one another with lawsuits. All the while, these same lawyers, as a class, are collecting huge hourly wages and contingency fees. There may be no better example of inflated income relative to actual work done in our whole society. Yes, attorneys seem to enjoy a free ride in the arena of public opinion. Why?

Guardian angel on motorcycle

I WOULD like to thank the man who went out of his way to get help for me Saturday when I was stranded on the interstate with two small children. I never knew guardian angels rode motorcycles. Thanks again.

Drug dealing in plain sight

I WAS calling in regard to the series about methamphetamine in the newspaper. I think it rather pathetic that we have focused all of these energies on methamphetamine when all we need to do is drive down to the area of Good Hope and Middle, whether it the middle of the night or the middle of the afternoon, to see crack cocaine is so readily available. You see young kids in their teens available to deliver crack cocaine at a moment's notice. If one drives through there, one would notice that the look in the eyes of people sitting on the side of the street is very similar to the young kids doing the car washes, not that they're afraid of the police, but can I get this one, can I close the deal on this one, just like the kids who try to wave you into a car wash. I think this is a business for them, and that's where we should focus our energies. We could make a big hit there rather than spending all of these taxpayer dollars on all of these programs that apparently accomplish nothing when it comes to methamphetamine.

Is this what taxes are for?

ON THURSDAY, Sept. 3 at 9 o'clock at Dennis Scivally Park, there were four city trucks in the park. They dumped a load of gravel by the playground. One young boy was spreading it out. All the rest of the guys were sitting the trucks doing nothing. The young boy was doing all the work. There were two in each truck. Is that why our taxes are going up again? So we can pay them for sitting in their trucks, doing nothing? It is getting out of hand with these taxes going up every year. My tax bill went up $400 last year. Now they are going up again.

Using dirty tactics

HILLARY IS following through with her threat of others being investigated that she stated in her conspiracy speech to television when she claimed Clinton was a victim of right-wing conspiracy. The White House has the FBI files to use to smear all of Clinton's adversaries. They are below-the-belt dirty fighters and should be thrown out of the White House.

Appoint inquisitors general

I THINK I have a very good idea to clean up and raise the quality of the representatives in Congress and other elected officials. We should have an inquisitor general appointed by each party to check on the honesty and moral fortitude of the other party. This would stop a lot of the people from running for office who are not morally qualified. The money should be awarded on the basis of adverse ratio to the amount of people in Congress with the party that has the most people investigated the most. I have a full plan worked out to include money and priorities of investigation. We could sure get rid of a lot of phonies that are there like Dan Burton.

A cure for sleepless nights

THANK YOU, thank you, thank you for publishing ongoing information pertaining to the debate over the appropriate way to count the U.S. population in the year 2000. My insomnia is cured.

Overseas duty is lonely

I WOULD like to say thanks to the caller who supplied the name of Gen. Eisenhower's alleged girlfriend in World War II. I'm sure you won't be able to find any documentation to verify their alleged affair, as the American public held presidents in higher esteem in those days. Being a highly honored military man whom I had the pleasure serving under, no one would have dared to make a scandal of his behavior whether it were true or not. But it was generally accepted and excused because of who he was. For those married men who served overseas for a long period of time, temptations had to be extremely hard for them to be true to their wives at home. Having served overseas for 30 consecutive months, I found very few married men who could stand the loneliness. Incidentally, I have been married to two wives for a total of 45 years and have never cheated either my deceased or present wife.

Thanks to Knaup Floral

THIS IS a call to thank Knaup Floral for all of the nice things that they do for people and for giving us those beautiful roses to give away. I think it helped a lot of people to get acquainted with neighbors and to just really enjoy life.

Youngsters don't need makeup

I WAS at the Advance Labor Day picnic. I was watching the Tiny Tot pageant, and I was appalled at the babies, 2 and 3 years old, wearing makeup. Mothers, please, let your babies be babies. They grow up entirely too fast. Besides all this, these children are beautiful angels and need no makeup. Pageant coordinators, maybe if you would start to disqualifying babies for wearing makeup, parents wouldn't feel pressured to apply that goop. Their skin is beautiful and delicate. Leave them alone.

Please fix stadium speaker

THIS IS to the athletic administration at the university. As a ticket buyer, I would appreciate it, along with 150 or so people sitting in my section, if they would fix that speaker that goes in and out at the stadium and is a nuisance for everybody. Just cut it off if they can't get it fixed and tell the play-by-play announcer not to yell at us.

Remember the market crash?

I'D LIKE to respond to the person who's 87 years old that called in and said the Democratic Party is not sincere in helping the poor and caring about the working man. This person had to old enough to remember the stock market crash. If this person doesn't remember it, then he was probably a well-cared for person who's family had a lot of money. Also, this person is more than likely taking Social Security benefits that the Democrats gave him the chance to pay into. I can't think of one thing the Republican Party has done for the working man. Anybody who says the Democratic Party is not for the working man is either misled or, at this particular person's age, had to have had it pretty well made and was not aware of the fact at the time of the stock market crash.
