I AM absolutely sick and tired of being told by the Democrats and by the media that I'm sick and tired of hearing about our president's lies and deceitful tactics. I want to hear all the information I can about it, because I think it's important for the future of our country that I have the knowledge and that everyone has the knowledge of what direction our leadership is going. Our future is at stake here...

We need the information

I AM absolutely sick and tired of being told by the Democrats and by the media that I'm sick and tired of hearing about our president's lies and deceitful tactics. I want to hear all the information I can about it, because I think it's important for the future of our country that I have the knowledge and that everyone has the knowledge of what direction our leadership is going. Our future is at stake here.

No faith in the system

TO THE lady who called in the "Grandmother gets custody" comment: I just want to say there is absolutely no justice in our system for bad or deadbeat parents. The system is not for, as you say, fit parents. I know. I have been struggling with the system for four years. Now child enforcement is helping a deadbeat parent. They couldn't help me, but all along they counseled the deadbeat parent, and now they are working for him. So all I can say is that all you deadbeat parents should call child enforcement, and you'll get all the help you need. Fit parents get sarcastic people who act as if you are putting them out of their way for help. They work for us. Seems funny, hmm? Lady, get used to it. Fit parents don't have a leg to stand on. Don't even bother calling any legal system. There's no legal system that will help you. No lawyer will help you because there's no money there. I wish I could have something else to help you with, but I understand where you're at. Please, don't give up like I have. There is no faith in this system. I have no faith at all.

Three improvements needed

I'M GLAD to see that the mayor and the Board of Aldermen in Jackson are trying to get three highway improvements instead of being content with one. East Main Street interchange, updating of Center Junction at I-55 and the upgrade of Highway 72 West through Jackson all have merit. Hang in there, City Hall and Jackson, and maybe we'll get all three improvements for Cape County.

More doctors needed

FOR THE fourth time in six years I've lost my doctor. It seems they all go on to bigger and better things, mostly to get away from Cape Girardeau as one told me. Luckily, I've been put on a waiting list, no promises, a slim "maybe" of getting a new doctor. The first thing they ask you, "Are you Medicare?" Since my primary insurance is not Medicare, I did get on that one list. They want to merge the hospitals. They had better get some doctors in here, or they won't need the hospitals. The big question is why can't this area keep doctors. The ones we have are booked full of patients, and they can only do so much. Maybe the people of this area could hire a few doctors to come in and take care of us. I, for one, would pay double for a good doctor.

Reassign the officers

THIS CONCERNS the nuisance officer for Jackson. We have hired two officers to be bicycle patrols. Why can't they just be reassigned as needed during the inclement months that are coming ahead or assign one of them permanently in a part-time position when a bicycle patrol is needed? Makes common sense to me.

Church is well-maintained

I'M CALLING to express my concern about the picture taken by Lou Peukert of Immanuel Lutheran Church in the paper Oct. 10. The picture taken makes it look as though the church is surrounded by weeds. This certainly is not the way it is. It is a beautiful, well-kept, stone church with well-kept grounds with no high weeds. As a courtesy to the congregation, another picture of the church needs to be published.

Whose shutting it down?

I AM sick of hearing the Democrats accuse Republicans of shutting down the government. Republicans never did that. Bill Clinton did that. He threatened the Republican Party and Congress that if they did not do things his way, the federal government would be shut down, and all the Democrats, including Bill Clinton, say that the Republicans shut it down simply because the Republicans refused to tax us even more. Do you know what appropriations are? That's money for more federal programs, either for new ones or to expand the ones already in existence. And do you know where the money comes from? Your pocket. I am sick to death of lying Democrats.

A rolling snowball

WHAT HAS destroyed cultures in the past has been immorality, which most historians have proven. This country's beginning to accept any conduct that can be imagined, and people with religious values, morals and character are considered to be old-fashioned or out of step with society. The family with a father and mother which the Bible teaches is replaced by the gay community, just living together and one-parent homes. We're a country where most citizens don't care about character of their leaders, themselves or their children. We're rolling down a hill like a snowball headed for you know where.

Enjoy Halloween decorations

JUST TO change the subject from the President and Monica, aren't the Halloween decorations just great? Have you seen Jackson's yard of the season, Rick Griswold at 3240 Ridge Road about a mile or so north of the of the Bent Creek entrance to the golf course? Stay right on Ridge Road. He makes the decorations to be enjoyed by all. Thanks, Rick. Just wait until Christmas. He really does a great job then. So come by and see them if you can.

Marching Tigers are great

I AM so proud of the Cape Girardeau Central High School Marching Tigers band. They work so hard after school every day, and they need to have more recognition for what they have accomplished. Give them a pat on the back. They are great.

Names should have been included

THE ARTICLE in Monday's paper about the 57-year reunion at St. Denis School was just wonderful. It would have been made complete had you included the names of all 10 members who attended as well as the one who is deceased. Since this is not an everyday occurrence, it was indeed newsworthy and enjoyable. Most of the people included live in the area and are known by many.

Laws cover everyone

I WANT to know why homosexuals think they need hate-crime laws. The boys who killed the student in Wyoming will, in all probability, face the death penalty. How would special laws make the penalty any worse? The laws cover everyone. I'm tired of hearing minorities whine. The only ones with no rights are white, heterosexual males, but we've learned to live with it.

God's messengers

I AM grieved as a Southern Baptist that such a vote by pastors of the Cape Girardeau association should decide who and who cannot be a member of the association by dismissing First Baptist Church. Deacons should be chosen not by gender, but by their righteousness in the Lord. By the way, Phoebe is a willing servant in Romans 16, servant being translated from the Greek as deacon. I'm in agreement with the man who was interviewed in the paper who said that God is interested in the message, not the messenger.

Soaking the rich

THE MOST common reason given for not believing in the free market is that it is unfair. Socialists and other kinds of economics levelists, the Democratic Party primarily, think that to close the poverty gap all we have to do is take money away from people who have too much and give it to people who don't have enough. But when we take money away from people just because they're rich, we destroy the system. Then when we give the money to the poor, either it is worthless or the poor don't have anything to buy with their money the way they didn't have the old Soviet Union. The 10th Commandment, which says thou shall not covet thy neighbor's material possessions, sends a message to all the people who think poverty can be cured by redistribution of wealth, by economic fairness or by taking from your neighbor. That message is clear. It not only will not cure the problems of society, it is a road to hell.
