ISN'T IT ironic that what we call progress can take us in such unusual directions? The shared water line between Cape and Jackson is a good example. I think we Cape folks are trying to get you all in this weird fashion by sharing our Mississippi River water. Do you really think chlorine neutralizes all those chemicals that industries are pumping in there? I just hope that by drinking that polluted drainage that you won't develop a nasty attitude like so many Cape folks have...
Watch out for Cape's water

Agrees with letter writer's assessment
INTERESTING READING in Tuesday's paper on the editorial page from William E. Ringpfiel, "Adults not kids, bear most blame." Ditto. I agree wholeheartedly.
Charge him with driving without insurance
MY SON'S car was run into by a man who left the scene of the accident. After he was caught, we found out that he had no insurance. We checked with the prosecutor's office, and he's only being charged with driving while revoked and leaving the scene of the accident. We only have liability, so I guess we'll be stuck fixing the car. I would at least think he should be charged for driving without insurance. Isn't it state law that you have to have insurance? I guess I'll just cancel mine if it really doesn't matter.
Get rid of Bah! Humbug! vocabulary
WHERE HAS the spirit of Christmas gone? People today are so rude and hateful, and things have not always been like this. I just don't understand it. Christmas is supposed to be a time of goodwill toward men, but at my job my boss gave me a raise that didn't even make any difference in my paycheck. When I asked him about it, he smugly told me to "write your congressman." Likewise, there was no Christmas bonus this year. And it's not just at work. The lady at the cable company was incredibly rude and hateful. I've only lived in Cape for a couple of months. A lot of people have been really nice, but more and more Scrooges are popping up. I'm not a mean person. I try to be friendly and helpful to everyone. I just can't understand how so many cold-hearted people can live with themselves. To all of you Scrooges out there, maybe someday you can take "Bah! Humbug!" out of your vocabulary.

More rights for parents, less for government
NOW A state senator has proposed that a school administrator have more authority than the parents for deciding when they get a driver's permit. In schools, there are 600 and 700 kids. Often the school administrator hardly knows your child. As a parent, you are probably more in tune with your child, and you should have a say in when your child gets a permit. It's time more rights were given back to the parents and less rights to government agencies.
Pagans worship nature, not the devil
I'M CALLING in regard to all the comments that have been published on paganism. I think these people who are stating their opinions need to research paganism a little further before they state facts about what paganism is. In a book called "Paganism Today" by Charlotte Hardman, paganism is not a religion that worships the devil. They do not mean to harm people, and they are not a cult. They are a modern group of earth religions, and they worship nature. Pagans worship the cycles of nature, and they worship the solstices and equinoxes. Before people start judging, they need to research a little further because their facts are simply not correct.
Highway 74 should be four lanes
IT MAY be of no importance to government officials because I live near the Diversion Channel, but I'm going to say what's on my unimportant mind. Highway 74 needs to be four lanes. To and from work every day, the road is a congested hazard. There are way too many unimportant people trying to get to Cape Girardeau and work every day. I take pride in the Dutchtown area.
Looking for some good movies
WITH THE exception of "Jackie Brown", "Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil", and "Titanic", Cape Girardeau's movie theaters have been getting every stupid movie that's come down the pike. And they've been staying a long, long time. What's my point? Simply this. If we don't get "Amistad" and "Double Quick", I'm moving to St. Louis where I can watch them on many screens as often as I like.
