Paid obituaries

I NOTICED in Tuesday's paper you had something labeled a paid obituary. Please explain this.

REPLY: Death and funeral notices are published in the Southeast Missourian without charge. However, from time to time survivors prefer to have an obituary published with exact wording or information that otherwise wouldn't be published. The Southeast Missourian makes paid obituaries available to these survivors and runs the paid obituaries with the other death and funeral notices. In addition, last week the Southeast Missourians began inserting an American flag in the death notices of anyone who has served in the armed forces. This is provided at no charge.
