New program at SEMO

I AM so pleased with Southeast Missouri State University for adding the physical therapist accredited program. It's about 10 years late, but we are happy that they are implementing it now.

Abortion info is correct

I'M CALLING in regards to the recent comment about the column that Sen. Kinder wrote about partial-birth abortion saying he is wrong. The caller better do some research. Sen. Kinder is 100 percent correct about his findings. Sen. Kinder should be commended for his pro-life stance. The individual who wrote the rebuttal about his findings sounds like he's more pro-choice even though he's a 100 percent voting Republican, as they say. I'm a voting Republican also, and whoever's doing this type of research should get into the issue better instead of going off half-cocked.

Jackson bonds are needed

I'M A citizen in the Jackson School District. I just want to say that I thank God every day for this Jackson School District. I think they really give us a lot of bang for our tax buck. They've proven themselves in the past, and I think any time they come before the voters with any proposition for a tax increase, a bond issue, whatever it might be, I think it's deserving of our most serious consideration. In my case, it's worthy of my approval. I trust those people.

It was just a ploy

A NEW chapter has opened in the life of Robert Dole, the politician. Being out of campaign funds and prohibited to raise more by law, he did what he had to do. He resigned from the Senate to get all that publicity. Yes, Mr. Dole, you're old and cagey, but we can figure you out.

Don't begrudge school taxes

I'VE LIVED in Jackson for the past 18 years. My children are a product of both the Cape Girardeau elementary schools and Jackson public schools. They've graduated from Jackson. I am in favor of every tax increase where the tax money is going to the schools in Jackson. Jackson has the premiere school system in Southeast Missouri. They are so progressive, so ahead of everybody else, it's not even funny. I can say this because my kids have been in both schools. Jackson has problems just like every other town in this day and age. But the schools are so progressive, so far ahead of everybody else. We had computers before anybody else did. We had education for teachers for exceptional students anybody else did. Our school is so superb compared to anyone else's. It's just a crying shame anyone can look at that $2, $3, $4 or $20 a year it's going to cost them and begrudge that when the children are our future. Our schools, the high school especially, are so overcrowded. The science labs are so crowded, they break things when they just turn around in them. These kids are our future. These kids in this science lab who are breaking things every time they turn around are our scientists of the future. Where is our country going to be when we keep begrudging every dollar that is spent on the education programs? Teachers are underpaid compared to everybody else. These people are our future. We have to take care of their education. If not, our future is going to be so bleak and so grim that we're not going to have any future.

Get the facts straight

THIS IS to the person who wanted to keep Peter Kinder out of office. It seems to me that you are the one who has the facts mixed up. Although the medical term is different, the procedure is the same. If you had watched "60 Minutes," you would realize that, even though they try to make it sound like they rarely use it on babies that don't have defects. Maybe you should put your efforts into getting the Clintons out of office instead. They are the ones who kept this procedure legal.

The president vetoed it

TO THE person who called in about Peter Kinder. It seems to me that it's an awful strange thing that the House and the Senate both voted to pass a law banning partial-birth abortions and that President Clinton vetoed it if there was no such thing as a partial-birth abortion. Doesn't it to you?

Send back lost wallet

I LOST my wallet a few weeks ago. It contained some pretty important things to me such as driver's license, student ID and numerous pictures of friends and family. There wasn't much cash in it. I have had faith that someone would mail back my wallet since I lost it. The things that important to me have no importance or use to whoever found it. If you have found my wallet, please mail it back to me. Keep the cash in it or send your address with the wallet and there will be a reward. If you ever find a wallet, please try to send it back or take it to the local police station. It is such a pain to replace everything one carries in a wallet.

Abortion facts are out

THIS IS to the person who thinks Peter Kinder was wrong about his facts on partial-birth abortion. How can you be pro-life and think there is no such procedure? It was in the news for weeks. Common sense tells what it means. A baby is partially born and then aborted by this procedure. Whether it's called a partial-birth abortion or a dilation and extraction late-term abortion, the results are the same: a brainless, dead baby. Even the news media uses this term. Thank you, Mr. Kinder. You got the facts out. We need more elected officials like you. You are in our prayers and have out votes. Keep up the good work.

Notice for small schools

THERE ARE a lot of small schools in the area with a lot of good students and a lot of good athletes. They are not getting any more attention than Notre Dame. Notre Dame is getting just as much attention as these small schools. Why do they think they should get so much attention when the rest of the small schools deserve the same? Who do they think they are?

Gays and boycotts

I WANT to comment about the gays and Disney's reaction to the boycott of Disney's products. I notice the gays were on TV saying they couldn't see how anyone could boycott someone's products, and they didn't think it was right to pull a boycott on people's products because of the behavior of other people. Well, it seems like I remember here a couple of years they were boycotting Colorado because Colorado voted in an anti-gay ordinance, and the gays called for a national boycott of Colorado. Now here's another one. What about Disney? Disney released a statement saying something about health benefits, that the Baptists were upset because the health benefits were extended to the partners of gay employees. Not true. The Baptists are upset because of what they're putting in their movies like the movie "Priest" and the sexual humor that was presented in "Pocahontas" and the "Little Mermaid." They're making fun of the Christian religion, and it's because Disney has so many gays working for them. I've just got one thing to say about Disney about and gays. You may have a president sitting in the White House right now who supports your lifestyle, but the average person out here doesn't.

Honesty about abortion

WE ARE told the majority of citizens believe in abortion. If so, I wish we would be honest enough to use accurate terminology. The Supreme Court has said the Constitution gives to women -- and women only -- the decision to carry the developing child within the womb to term and be developed of a living child or to destroy the developing child in the womb and be delivered of a dead child. The dictionary states the meaning of abortion is "the inducing of premature delivery in order to destroy offspring." Please, let us be honest in our debates of this issue.

Thankful for senator

IN RESPONSE to the person who said Kinder was wrong on abortion. I agree this procedure may not be in any medical books because doctors are taught to heal, not to kill. It is probably a procedure invented by an abortion doctor. Also, if you do not even believe this procedure exists, then why did Clinton have two women by his side when he signed the veto who said that this procedure saved their lives? I am very thankful that we have someone like Peter Kinder in the Senate, and I will do all I can do to see him re-elected.

Leave the snakes alone

I NEVER heard such ignorant remarks about snakes. Does anybody ever really see a slimy snake, if there is such a thing? If you bother to educate yourself about snakes, you would find that you're running around and killing them needlessly does a lot more harm than that snake ever will. They're part of the food chain. Leave them be.
