White House, not jail house

A NOTICE to Clinton supporters. When you come to the rally in Cape, please bring money. We can pass a hat to collect for the Clinton legal defense fund. We can keep Clinton in the White House, not the jail house.

Get ready to cruise Broadway

DO YOU what President Clinton and our teenagers have in common? He's going to cruise Broadway.

Campaign won't be dull

APPARENTLY CAMPAIGN '96 won't be a dull so-so campaign. When Bekki's little musket misfired and JoAnn is still running, Bekki, Emily and fellow Democrats must have decided it's time to roll out the big guns. First the governor, now the president. Will JoAnn and the Republicans wilt under the rockets red glare and bombs bursting in air or will they rebound with added zeal and determination? Don't miss the next episode coming soon.

Clintons making a difference

I'M TIRED of hearing you Bible thumping, flag waving Republicans complain about Bill and Hillary's character. I didn't know Bill and Hillary in the 60s, but I would have liked them. It was people like Bill Clinton, Jane Fonda and Tom Hayden who were trying to make a difference. They were the real heroes, not the ones that went off to kill the innocent, peace loving, Vietnamese people. We finally have a president that knows what America ought to be about, sex, guns, and rock 'n roll. Like we said in the 60s, man if it feels good, do it. Right on, Bill. Right on, Mr. President.

Republican issues challenge

A CHALLENGE to all my fellow Republicans and conservatives. So Mr. Clinton's coming to town on Friday. So let's all go out wearing our patriotism, a huge smile and carry our flags. Oh, grab those Republican signs, those Dole-Kemp signs, those Rush signs and wave them proudly and high. Let's line the highways, the byways, the streets, the curbs, and the sidewalks. Let's circle Capaha Park, let's show Mr. Clinton, how proud, how patriotic, and how respectful and most how Republican we really are.

The Clinton difference

THERE IS a difference between President Clinton and the people who were lucky enough not to be drafted to serve in our armed forces during a war. They didn't go to a foreign country and take part in a demonstration where the American flag was burned. My husband was drafted, sent to Vietnam. He didn't want to go there but he served valiantly because that was what his country asked him to do. What Bill Clinton did was a slap in the face to every honorable American who served, who died, or who was injured in body and soul.

White House for sale

SO BILL and Hillary Clinton have turned the White House into the Bates Motel, charging big bucks to his contributors to his pockets to stay in the Lincoln and Queens rooms. What else can be done to demean the character of the office of the President of the United States and White House? By the way, the White House belongs to the taxpayers and any money received by them should be turned over to retire the national debt, which they have helped to accrue.

Quit dredging up old crimes

YOU MAY not realize the consequences of your articles dredging old news, naming victims of crimes, especially murders, who are no longer with us. However, family and friends of these people must try to live with it every day and get on with coping with these terrible acts. Each time the name is printed, the wound is reopened. The news should be, by definition new. Do you just not have enough to do or report on that you must constantly reprint the details and names of past violent crimes? Enough is enough.

Dear Attorney General

CAN YOU possibly get me the address of the Attorney General of this state.

You can write Attorney General Jay Nixon at Supreme Court Bldg., P.O. Box 899, Jefferson City, Mo., 65102.

Upset about concert

THIS IS in regards to the Crosby, Stills, Nash concert. I had guests from out of town and we purchased the most expensive tickets in order to see Crosby, Stills and Nash. Two very rude people who had seats in front of us refused to sit down during the concert. We asked an usher if he could please ask them to sit down and he did and they refused. So we went and got the manager of the Show Me Center who was unable to get them to sit down and allow everyone to enjoy the concert. I think this is very disgusting and I will not be buying tickets and I will encourage everyone else I know not to buy tickets to concerts at the Show Me Center until the manager can control the situation.

Why die for nothing?

I, FOR the sake of me, cannot understand these lug nuts who are trying to get on Bill Clinton's case because he was a draft dodger. If I was of age to go to Vietnam for a no-win war, I would have been a draft dodger too. It would have been stupid of me to lose a handful of brains for no reason.

What about a botanical garden?

I, TOO have a suggestion for uses for the old St. Vincent's Seminary. What about a botanical garden? The botanical garden in St. Louis is beautiful and attracts crowds and tourist. Our botanical garden could have a face onto the river and people could see it from the bridge. It would attract people into downtown Cape, it would serve a useful purpose and surely someone could find a way to write some grants to help fund it. Maybe the old Colonial Cape Foundation could think of a way to use the restored building and turn the grounds into a botanical garden. They might even have a public fund raising. I know I'd like to contribute.

What about I-66

I WANTED to know, first of all, I would like to congratulate the Missourian on its fine article on the importance of Interstate 55 here at Cape Girardeau. But I would like to know why it has been strangely absent from taking an editorial stand supporting I-66 through Cape Girardeau. If I-55 is that important, why wouldn't I-66 be equally so? Especially since it's now a high priority highway route in the national highway bill. Please reply.

Let's show respect

THIS IS directed to the person who called stating they planned to picket and protest at the President's visit. I am not a Clinton supporter but I do plan to attend with my two children, ages 9 and 6, who are extremely excited to see the President of the United States. We will show him respect because of the office he holds. I hope you will do your protesting with this in mind and not ruin the day for many children and parents, Democrats and Republicans, alike.
