THIS IS in response to the remarks about having a RN or LPN in our schools. They are not starting IVs or administering IV drugs. It's a basic medical care, to be honest with the public. A paramedic or EMT could do the job. When a child has a serious injury or illness at a school, an ambulance is called anyway, and the care is turned over to a paramedic or EMT. So just think about it. An RN is not necessary. An LPN is just fine, and basic care is always taken, with a child on the scene...

Paper made me a Democrat

I USED to be a Republican, but since I have read so many of your opinions and the editorials, I am now a Democrat.

Who is raising taxes?

THERE IS a perception in Cape Girardeau County that only Democrats raise your taxes. A little known but true fact is that after the first of the year, all real estate will be re-evaluated which will result in higher taxes. And now our sheriff announces a grant of $1.5 million, admits it will not be enough, and hoped we don't have to raise taxes. Now I ask you, who is raising taxes in Cape Girardeau County.

Thanks for fish fry

I WANT to thank Bill Thompson and Alice Faye and their family for the wonderful fish fry for the people in the nursing home and all their families. It was a wonderful time. We had everything we could think of to eat, and they really go out to support the people in the home and their families. Thank you, Bill and Alice Faye and family.

Too much homework

I HAVE been concerned about this for awhile, and I was glad to see someone else call Speak Out about it. What is my concern? It is the excessive amount of homework given to the students at the high school. My child is an excellent student with good study habits and excellent grades. But with two and three hours homework every night, it is getting to the point where school is drudgery. The joy of learning is gone when one has to sit for three hours every evening doing homework. I believe in homework. It is good and necessary, but three hours every single night of the week plus weekends is overdoing it. Please, teachers, I beg you, give these kids a break. By the way, I am a teacher.

Out of a job soon?

IF IT should be that President Clinton failed to get back in, Rush Limbaugh and the Missourian editorial writers would be out of a job as they wouldn't have anything to gripe about. As far as Al Spradling being a Democrat who is backing JoAnn Emerson, he's a turncoat who hasn't been a Democrat for over 20 years.

Need a man of respect

I CANNOT believe people who have good common sense are still planning to vote for Clinton. Another four years of Clinton would be disastrous for America. We'd better heed the wake up call now. We need a man in office we can respect. Clinton is not that man.

Abused children need help

Something needs to be done about children's rights. Not only are parents neglecting the children and abusing them, they will not take care of their needs, they will not feed the children, they go hungry. And for some reason, it seems like the Division of Family Services tries to work with these kids. They should be seeing their mother. They should try to make contact. These poor little children need for the public to wake up and see what's happening. Let's help these children. Talk about child abuse. It is worse than it has ever been in this part of the country.
