VERY FEW times have I ever agreed with George Bush but I do believe he's on the right track with the NRA. They're a bunch of vigilantes.

IN RESPONSE to the person who is so happy to see the Major League ballplayers back. I wonder who was playing for the Dodgers and Cardinals Saturday, May 13. Fifteen errors made by both teams. I wonder if any replacement teams ever had 15 errors in one game. I for one would rather see the replacement players back.

WOULD YOU please investigate and inform the public as the number of car wrecks that occur at the intersection of I-55 and Highway 61? This intersection between Cape and Jackson appears to me to be very dangerous. Perhaps the Southeast Missourian can take a leadership role in stimulating the highway department to reconstruct this interchange to make it safer for the general public.

Reply: The I-55 and Highway 61 intersection, known as Center Junction, is the most dangerous accident location in the city limits. There were 47 accidents at the spot in 1994, resulting in one fatality. Some improvements have been made in the location, including leveling the hill, but it remains a dangerous stretch. The Missourian has written a number of editorials about traffic safety in the city, including that dangerous stretch, and will continue to push this important issue.

I'M SURE I missed the story but how did the Post Office do in their food collection drive?

Reply: The Missourian ran two stories about the event on April 16 and May 12, and published a photograph in the May 14th edition. The post office collected 11,800 pounds of food, which went to the Salvation Army and FISH.

WHILE READING the headline in Tuesday, May 16 Missourian, City pay hikes short of requests and ensuing article by Mark Bliss, I decided Mr. Bliss was not a liberal Democrat and neither did he write for the Associated Press. If he were a liberal Democrat or wrote for the Associated Press the headline would read Republicans on city council force pay cuts on city employees.

THIS IS for all men who have overweight wives. It's your fault she's fat. She's not happy and needs a little love and affection. That's why she eats. Change your ways or you're going to lose her.

FIRST, I'D like to thank the Missourian for Speak Out. Second, for Heidi's expose of Jackson's city engineer. And thirdly, for the editorial in the May 15 issue, it most certainly presented morals that the mayor of Jackson should follow. His rebuttal and disclaimers to all facts presented proves to the citizens just what he stands for. It echoes his attitudes about the transportation tax as well as other things that he has proclaimed.

HOW MANY, many, many more wrecks have to be before they'll do something about Interstate 55 and 61 leading toward Jackson? That is a very dangerous, dangerous spot.

I READ the editorial Tuesday about the concern of the talk shows on KFVS. This is what is demoralizing the country. If this is all that KFVS can come up with, it does not have the community welfare in mind. And my conversation with the program director as to why such programs and talk shows were aired on prime time he told me they were not geared to children's programs. I say it is not geared to even concerned adults either. We need to call and write and do all we can to get this filth and obscenity stopped.
