Need common sense

AFTER READING the article about the council rejecting some of the proposals Monday night, I am just completely amazed that Mr. Gately would feel that there was an infringement to have more codes, rules and regulations as far as the boarding and rooming houses but then going into another article he is willing to guide individuals morals by putting more restrictions on different types of adult entertainment centers in town, and evidently he feels more regard for a person's morals than he does for a person's life. As far as Councilman Rickert questioning the legality of forcing boarding homes and operators to put in smoke detectors, if he would check into his present codes he would find that they are already required to have these, but unfortunately a number of the slum lords in town refuse to spend the money on these until something happens and the fire department has to go in and pick up what's left. I wish these two councilmen would be guided more by common sense than by pressure from the outside.
